A view of the British Legion hall which stood on the hall site prior to the new hall being built.
Prior to the new hall being built, the British Legion Hall stood on the site. This hall was used for many community events and private parties over the years. We have approached community members who attended events in the hall and we are collecting their memories of the old hall. If you have any memories to offer please forward to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The last event in the British Legion hall was a 'beetle drive' in the late 1990s, memories of this event would be most welcome. After that time, the building quite literally 'fell' in decay.
The building next to the British Legion hall was known as the 'Shant'. This building stood near where the current village hall toilet block and the small committee room are now situated. The small committee room has been named the 'Shant room'. The Shant was the headmaster's house, built next to the school rooms on the corner. The old school rooms is now a shop, post office and bistro.
The Legion hall site was saved from housing developers by a group of local residents with support of Stanwick Parish council. The village hall trust was established and the group worked tirelessly to apply for funding for a new hall. Eventually their hard work paid off and the key for the new building was handed over on 26th April 2011. An open day for all the community took place in May 2011 and the official launch in June 2011.
