Green Plan
Since the new village hall opened in 2011, the green agenda has always been a main aim of the trust.
- The new building followed the green regulations in 2011
- Local residents were encouraged to walk to the hall where possible
- Energy usage was carefully managed
- The facilities manager worked closely with regular users, hirers and cleaners to ensure the efficiency of the building
- The trust regularly monitor the efficiency of the building
- The facilities manager has attended meetings run by ACRE, the village halls national advisory organisation
- The facilities manager has also attended meetings run by CSE, Centre for Sustainable Energy
Aims
Stanwick Village Hall Trust will review the Green Plan and energy efficiency of the hall on a regular basis.
- To ensure the the hall is as energy efficient as possible
- To keep the hall’s carbon footprint to a minimum
- To improve the efficiency of the building positively contributing to the local and national CO2 emissions
- To work alongside Stanwick Parish Council and other community organisations in the community
- For the Hall’s green plan to work alongside the Parish Council’s ‘Green Strategy’
- With increasing energy bills work to keep hall running costs low ensuring hire fees can be kept low and continue to make the hall accessible to all
- Ensure the building is kept as a quality venue and financially sustainable now and for the the next 100 years
Actions to Date
- Working alongside builders to ensure a green and eco friendly hall
- Trust and facilities manager regular energy efficiency reviews of the building
- Manager updates to hirers re measures they can take to support the plan, ie: lights off, taps off, washing up bowl use rather than full sink, windows, use of air con only when needed, turning off items
- Daylight and movement sensors fitted to the majority of lights in the building to avoid them being left on
- Water heaters when replaced, replaced with more eco friendly efficient
- As toilet taps need replacing, replaced by sensor taps
- Hand drier when needed replacing replaced with an eco friendly model
- Air con system lockable box, access given to hirer who require it and reminders to turn off after use
- 2018 Trust and facilities manager investigate solar grant options and FIT scheme
- 2019 Trust established a green fund, donations received from the community
- With technology advancing the facilities manager and treasurer identified he majority of the halls electric use being lighting
- The facilities manager looked into options to put LED lighting into the building pre solar panels to reduce energy usage initially
- LED lighting grant applied for in 2020 from ENC
- LED lighting fitted in the most of the building via £10,000 grant from ENC
- Facilities manager review of energy efficiency of the building
- Heat pumps not a reliable option with underfloor heating, advised to leave heating system for now
- Facilities manager review options for solar post LED lighting fitting, quotes obtained and grant options reviewed
- Trust agree to look at more eco friend urinals
